Notes from Rebekah & Jonathan
"It's freezing cold. I'm wearing three shirts, two pairs of pants and a skirt, two pairs of socks and hat and I'm still cold. We're out of water so I have to boil some forever to make hot tea, and I almost got run over by a cow today! No really. I was walking down the road with my head somewhere else when I heard Erin yelp so I turned and a cow went bolting past me. Erin was stopped and staring at me. She said "That cow almost ran you over! Its horns were like an inch from your back. I didn't even have time to say anything." I almost got killed by a cow! Wouldn't that have been quaint?" (Rebekah)
"I got back from the south a couple of days ago, which was a pretty awesome trip. We got the chance to go to a bunch of the different villages where we have different projects. There was an external evaluator from Farm Africa (our main donor) so for the most part we just went around and showed him (and me) the different projects. I will probably go back down to the south sometime around the middle of January. This time it will be right around the junction of Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan, a different area. I met a guy from Australia when I was in Jinka and we rode the bus together back to Addis. He was working at the Sisters of Charity hospital for a month for school. While I was in the south I had a lot of time in car rides to study Amharic, so I'm a lot better at it now. It's hard to understand people still unless they talk slowly but I can get my point across pretty well--it's really fun and people are very nice when you are able to speak the language a little."
