Hiwot and Jonathan Goering
|
News -- About Jane's Family
When Rebekah and Erin returned from their volunteer
months at the book center in Ethiopia, Rebekah's big brother, Jonathan,
made it clear that he wasn't yet ready to return. After he
postponed his return date several times, Jane and Leonard learned that
Hiwot, the accountant at the book center, was one major reason why
Jonathan wanted to stay in Ethiopia.
Jonathan and Hiwot are now married. After living in Addis Ababa
for a time -- and working on getting Hiwot's emigration papers to the
U.S., the two of them were able to move to Kansas. They are now
studying at the University in Lawrence They were still living in
Addis Ababa when their daughter, Ellemae Inku Goering
was born March 22, 2005. Their second child (a baby boy), Noh Iyasu Goering, was born May 24, 2007, in Kansas.
While they were in Addis Ababa Hiwot and Jonathan operated the Addis Ababa Bed and Breakfast.
The B&B Guesthouse is still operating under the management of
Hiwot's parents; and the companion website showcases some of Jonathan's
photographs.
By now you might realize that Jane does
really think that books do change lives and this new family is certain
proof of one of Yohannes's
(of Ethiopia Reads) favorite sayings: Books Change Lives."
