Thank you for visiting.
Jane is the author of picture books, early chapter books, and young adult novels. Her writing career began after she became a teacher and a mother. She was born in Portland, Oregon, but when she was two-years-old, her parents became missionaries in Ethiopia. The entire family moved to Ethiopia where Jane spent most of her childhood. She returned to the United States to attend college. During those years she felt like an awkward outsider. Many of her books have connections to her childhood home, Ethiopia and provide a glimpse into her childhood home.
Now livng in Northwest (Oregon) with her husband, she travels the country (and internationally) speaking, at schools and conferences, about being an author. She has spoken in 39 of the
United States and the District of Columbia and has spoken in such places as Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, France, Germany, Romania, England, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Japan — as well as Ethiopia. She has met all types of young people who are changing the world, one person at a time.
One of her ongoing passions is the work of Ethiopia Reads, a nonprofit that is responsible for establishing libraries throughout Ethiopia, building a culture of literacy for the children of Ethiopia. Read more about her and her writing on her "About Jane" page.
